Prime Time hero awards to be announced

TORRINGTON – An award ceremony honoring prominent political officials and community leaders will take place Saturday at the Warner Theatre. The first Prime Time House Hero Awards will honor many who have contributed for the benefit of those battling mental illness.

The ceremony will take place at the Nancy Marine Studio Theatre, 68 Main St., from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Recipients of the award include Mayor Ryan Bingham, Rep. Chris Murphy, D-5, City Officer John Lemieux, City Sergeant Joe Locascio and a series of other community members and merchants. The Prime Time House, a community center servicing mentally disabled individuals, will be hosting the event.

The center assists rehabilitated individuals by helping them secure work, enter school and re-enter society, said Administrative Assistant David Perrotti. Those receiving awards are those have done great work for the PrimeTime, he said.

Managers from local major business, such as Big Y, O&Gindustries and Panera Bread, have assisted in obtaining jobs for such rehabilitated individuals, Perrotti said.

“These are people who have really gone far to assist those in rehabilitation,” Perrotti said. “Congressman Murphy secured $300,000for us.”

The event will consist of an awards ceremony, live entertainment and cocktails and Hours d’oeuvres. Tickets are $50 per person. Please contact Tina Yard at 489-3636.
