The home stretch...

October 27, 2008

Hi Everyone!

We are heading into the home stretch, with only 8 days until the Election! I know I can’t believe that this is going so fast, and I’m sure everyone else feels the same way. This is such an historic and exciting election, and I am so proud to be a part of it. I hope everyone who feels the same way I do will get involved, be it through phone calls, knocking on doors, attending a debate, or just spreading the word. This election is just too important, and everyone’s small efforts will add up to a big difference on November 4th. A big thanks to everyone who is working so hard for Chris, and I hope to see you out there!

Emily

Chris out and about this past weekend

October 27, 2008

On Saturday, Chris stopped by the Italian Food Festival in Avon. The food was delicious and he got to meet some wonderful people too!

Then on Sunday, Chris went to the Stony Hill Fire Department in Bethel for their Pancake Breakfast.

Update from Kevin

October 21, 2008

Last week was another great week out in the field for Team Murphy. We knocked on THOUSANDS of doors in the district as we continue to bring Chris’ message to people’s doors. We are a grassroots campaign and we are always out in the field trying to make government more accessible to people. That is why we bring it right to your doorstep! Though walking door-to-door can be tiring, it is truly the best way to connect to people and see what is on their minds.

I encourage all of you to come out and join us! Give us a call at (860) 223-5522 or shoot us an email (campaign@murphyforcongress.org) – we are always here!

We look forward to working with you!

Chris visits New Milford

October 20, 2008

Chris made a few stops in New Milford last weekend – he was able to visit Smyrski Farm and meet families who were there for the Family Farm Day.

He then went down to the New Milford Green and stopped by the Pumpkin Festival!

Amy reports from the Waterbury Chamber of Commerce Debate

October 16, 2008

While the rest of the nation was watching the final Presidential debate, we in the Fightin’ Fifth had a debate of our own. Yesterday’s debate was the first time the people of the Fifth District were able to hear for themselves the plans Chris Murphy and his opponent have for the our district. Chris spent the debate outlining the problems he sees facing the Fifth District, and how he plans on solving them.

For me, the debate once again reminded me of what is at stake for the Fifth District. In less than three weeks, we will go to the polls to re-elect Chris. As Chris stated in closing remarks, “This time is a serious time and we need real solutions.” He is absolutely right; we need real policy solutions, and Chris Murphy has shown time and time again that he is the candidate who is capable of putting politics aside and accurately addressing the needs of his constituents.

Mark, on the ground in Waterbury

October 16, 2008

Hello gang. My name is Mark and I’m the Field Organizer for Chris in the Waterbury area. The energy so far this year has been incredible. Everywhere I go, I meet people who have never been involved in the political process, who recognize that this election is the most important of their lives, and have in turn proved the old saying that “ordinary people can do extraordinary things when we work together”.

It has been my pleasure to get to know this community one door at a time. Waterbury certainly has lived up to its reputation of being home to passionate voices from both sides of the aisle. What motivates me everyday is the core group of Murphy supporters who have already given so much of their time to help Chris keep his job of representing you and your needs in Washington. These dedicated volunteers would love for you to join them in helping reelect Chris!

Working closely with Chris has been the privilege of a lifetime. He cares deeply about issues that are important to Connecticut like providing children the health care they deserve, reversing our disastrous policies in the Middle East and bringing us real energy independence. His relentless dedication to the 5th District is awe-inspiring. More than any politician I’ve ever met, Chris truly takes into account the day-to-day concerns of his constituents. He is a role model to me, and I hope for our Country that we can elect as many good men like Chris Murphy to Congress as possible.

Greetings from Emily!

October 15, 2008

Hello Everyone!

This is Emily, the Field Organizer for the beautiful Northwest Corner of Connecticut! As fall has finally arrived and the trees seem to have exploded in color, it has been an absolute joy to drive around this lovely part of the state and meet so many wonderful people. This weekend was no exception.

I think the most exciting part of working for Chris has been the chance to talk to so many people and hear their concerns directly. This past weekend, we went door-to-door in Torrington, and it was so great to have people so engaged and interested in this upcoming election, from the top of the ticket to the bottom. It gives me so much hope to have people so willing to get involved, from retirees to high school students, and to hear people asking really important questions. I think it means that we actually can make a difference, and when times get tough, we are able to put aside our differences and talk about the issues facing us as a community. This campaign has been absolutely energizing for me, personally and politically, and I know that it’s only going to get better!

See you out there!

Visiting businesses in Meriden

October 13, 2008

Recently, Chris went door to door visiting downtown Meriden businesses.

He stopped by a pizza place, paint store, coffee shop, and this frame gallery to hear directly from local business owners how they are coping with the economy and what he can do to help.

Remember Kevin?

October 10, 2008

Hey everyone!

This is Kevin, the Murphy for Congress Field Director. I held the same position back in 2006 and was thrilled when Chris invited me back to help this year. There have been many changes since 2006 but what has not changed is Chris, and the reception that we get when we go to events throughout the district.

People simply love Chris.

I have been with him from Salisbury to Meriden and everywhere in between and people are even more excited to speak with him than ever before. It really makes it a very satisfying experience for us staffers!

We stay extremely busy throughout the campaign because we pride ourselves on being out in the district speaking to people on a daily basis. And remember, we can use all the help we can get on the campaign and we encourage everyone to sign up to help us send Chris back to Washington for another two years!

See you out in the 5th,

Kevin

Introducing Brenna - Team Murphy Organizer!

October 01, 2008

Hi everybody! When I tell people that I came all the way from California to help re-elect Chris Murphy, they give me puzzled looks until I explain: I am a lawyer, and I am really worried that our Congress hasn’t been taking the United States Constitution very seriously lately. Chris Murphy is one of the few incumbents in Congress I trust to understand, as many of our nation’s founders did, that fear for our physical safety can too easily translate into a willingness to give up our essential liberties. It takes a very level-headed and focused leader to not cave in to the tyranny of fear but stay true to the best of American values during difficult times. Connecticut is lucky to have just such a leader in the 5th District.

I think our nation is in crisis, and it is going to take more than one courageous person to help turn it around: it’s going to take all of us who are paying attention. I have never driven across the country to help elect somebody before, but for this election, this year, I was more than happy to make the trip. We all have different roles to play, and I am so happy that so many fun, energetic people in Connecticut are already stepping forward to get plugged in to this very important race. I look forward to working with you all!

- Brenna
